2023 Aviation Outlook

Updated: Feb 4, 2023

As we start 2023, we don't know what the year will hold. However, some key events are planned to happen this year.

2023 will be an almost normal year after Covid-19 and Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The aviation industry is expected to make a profit for the first time since Covid-19. Despite this positive news, airlines will still be faced with challenges e.g. rising fuel and oil costs as well as changing weather patterns and climate change concerns.

From 19-25 June 2023, the Paris Air Show is set to take place. The Paris Air Show usually sees several large aircraft orders placed with manufacturers. The big names are likely to be there including Airbus and Boeing.

In November 2023, the Dubai Air Show is set to be held. The Dubai Air Show is a significant event but not on the scale of Paris or Farnborough. Airbus and Boeing as well as other manufacturers typically announce new orders. The show is usually focused on Middle Eastern carriers such as Emirates and Etihad. The show is held at Dubai World Central Airport and the Emirates A380 is expected to be the star of the show.

Overall the 2023 Aviation outlook looks promising but as we have seen in the past things can change at a moment in aviation. Just this morning as I am writing this, news broke that British Regional Carrier FlyBe has ceased trading and entered administration. No one saw that coming, especially as it was under a year since it started service as FlyBe 2.0. All aviation events in 2023 are not mentioned here but these are just some key events I feel are notable.
